3 idiots is released with controversy. The story is quite similiar to the chetans five point someone. chetans claim seems to be right. I saw the movie yesterday it was similar but not exactly same. The story was amended little to make it more interesting or we can say to make little different from the chetans story. There was lots of thing similar

1) Three main characters of the movie

2) Their background

3) Karenna’s character

4) Drinking near water tank

5) Definition of machine asked by professor

6) And lots of other things

I think these are enough to make a screenplay. The film retains the soul of the book. 3 Idiots is different from the book but at the same time it does borrow many things from the book. The core theme and message of the film is coming from the book itself. And that's why the makers have officially credited the film as 'Based on a novel by Chetan Bhagat.
